Several days of worship, vision-casting, teaching, and strategy were followed by small village evening concert outreaches in areas fairly close to Kampala where new churches are being developed. ... I was especially pleased to be traveling again with young people of the “Melodian Kings,” who now are very good at conducting effective outreaches even when their leader, Godfrey Saazi, was not around.

...I believe many leaders were very encouraged and left with increased vision for Christ to be worshipped in every village through new churches.

...When we arrive in Addis Ababa, we went first to a small town about 120 kilometers south of the city to participate in a gathering of believers (and invited friends) in an outdoor-meeting. 12 churches in the area participated in this exciting event. ... In this all-day Sunday event, extravagant worship, preaching the gospel, and sharing on the CMC vision were used to bring people to Christ and greatly encourage the local Christians.

When we returned to Addis Ababa, two days were spent with 51 handpicked leaders representing the 5 provinces where Mezgebu Tsemru has been organizing CMC pastors’ networks.

...Hopefully, our networks, when formed in those regions, will provide some support for native missionaries working among those people groups in a similar way to what our networks in Southern Mindanao, Philippines are providing to workers there with tribal groups and Muslims.

In any case, I’m greatly encouraged by the response so far in Ethiopia to the CMC vision and believe that we need to do the best we can to provide needed resources so that the work will not be slowed down. I would like to encourage ongoing prayer for Mezgebu Tsemru, country leader, as he works tirelessly for the Kingdom, both with CMC and with his church leadership role in the country.

Reflections on Our Trip to Haiti

Three well-organized crusades were held in partnership with a local pastor’s group, resulting in many professions of faith and the founding of two new churches with responsible leaders ready to shepherd the young believers. Pastor Saazi Godfrey from Uganda and Pastor Jill Boyonas from the Philippines joined myself, Paul Klenner, Eugene Masuda, Tom Watson and Helen Roenfeld for the week in Haiti, where we based our operations in the second largest city in the country, Gonaives.

...On the second night of outreach we experienced an unusual miracle with two young men who are brothers. The first young man asked for prayer for his knees and then after prayer, moved aside to reveal his brother’s more serious crippled condition. He had been walking on one leg with his other leg unusable and misshapen since birth. , his arm in a metal crutch to support his weight and act as the second “leg” for walking. When Pastor Godfrey laid his hands in prayer on him, the bones in the malformed leg popped loudly, and moved under his hand.

...In addition to the three powerful evening outreaches and “day-after” follow-up/church planting Bible study groups, we met with pastor’s fellowships in four different towns to present the CMC pastor’s network vision. Overall response was good, and we also met with a “temporary” leadership team to develop these pastor’s networks ongoing.

...All around us we saw the effects of devastating poverty and debris from two major floods in the last three years. But we also witnessed the dignity and resilience of Haitian people, some of the fervor and dedication of the believers, and hauntingly beautiful music and worship.

Reflecting on Uganda and Ethiopia Missions, June 8-29, 2009

So much happened every day on this trip that it seemed to me longer than the actual two and a half weeks we were there.

...On the third night of ministry (but my first night there), we preached to a crowd of 1200 or more, many of whom received Christ. ... When lights from a truck illuminated the darkness in front of me, I suddenly say a mass of people on their knees, calling out for God’s salvation with hands and faces upraised.

...Earlier that day we’d sat in a little church building with a group of local pastors and evangelists sharing our story of how God led us to beginning the pastors’ networks for church planting. ... The pastors were full of questions for myself, Pastor Godfrey (Uganda), and Jill Boyonas (Philippines), and eager to evangelize their area in partnership with CMC Uganda.

...Churches were begun in two of these villages, one of which had been considered “cursed” because of it’s history as a place for dumping bodies of the deceased and a place where female circumcisions were performed.

...From the beginning, the very good organizing by Tercit Asrat (our Ethiopian-American friend and President of Hosanna Foundation) and her associate, Pastor Mezgebu, resulted in very productive ministry opportunities.

The Ethiopian medical mission, conducted by Ugandan doctor, Jackson Magada, and two great volunteer nurses from Addis Ababa, treated many locals in Guchara, while our team ministered to a growing crowd of believers (1200+) and pre-believers in a two-day event.

...Our time in the Ethiopian countryside was followed by a two-day leaders seminar where Jill Boyonas, Godfrey, myself, and Mezgabu presented our story and experience in developing the CMC pastors’ movements and ended up organizing the first such pastors’ network in Addis Ababa with about twenty-five participating leaders.

While our team went sightseeing and shopping on our last full day in Addis Ababa, I was taken to visit several young ministry leaders and pastors who had been encouraged and launched into ministry by my friend, Benny Amin.
